From time to time, it is necessary for a JLG® mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) to be tied down or lifted by an overhead or mobile crane. In these situations, the following precautions must be taken:
Tying down and lifting MEWPs tips at a glance

Tie Down

  • When transporting a machine, the unit must be in the stowed position with the turntable lock pin engaged (if equipped) and the machine securely fastened to the truck or trailer deck at the designated tie down points.
  • Ensure that all tie down equipment is adequately rated and suitable for the intended purpose.
  • Remove all loose items from the machine prior to tie down.

Lifting

  • When lifting the machine, it is very important that the lifting device and equipment is attached only to the designated lifting points and that the turntable lock pin is engaged (if equipped).
  • Make adjustments to the lifting device and equipment to ensure that the machine will be level when elevated. The machine must remain level at all times while being lifted.
  • Ensure that the lifting device and equipment is adequately rated and suitable for the intended purpose. Check the JLG Operator & Safety manual and Service & Maintenance manual for approximate weight of the machine or, for certain models, the Serial Number plate for the actual weight of the machine as originally manufactured.
  • Remove all loose items from the machine prior to lifting of the machine.

It is important to understand that it is the user’s responsibility to obtain any additional training regarding the proper lifting procedures of JLG products that may be required. Please consult with your local, state and employer regulations.
