JLG Joins National Safety Month Efforts

Wednesday, June 2, 2021

McConnellsburg, Pa. June 1, 2021 — JLG Industries, Inc., an Oshkosh Corporation company [NYSE:OSK] and leading global manufacturer of mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) and telehandlers, announces its support of the National Safety Council’s (NSC) 25th National Safety Month, an annual initiative in June to help keep people safe from ‘the workplace to anyplace’. In support of NSC’s month-long 2021 efforts, JLG has published a new eBook “How to Reduce the Hidden Cost of Ladders,” a step-by-step guide to achieving safer, more productive job sites. The eBook is now available for download on JLG® #DirectAccess.

Many tasks in construction need to be performed at height. But the reality is, seemingly innocent and commonplace tools like ladders can be a threat to a company’s bottom line due to fall injuries, which are the leading cause of workers compensation costs for the industry. In fact, according to the NSC, the U.S. has seen the highest number of workplace deaths since 2007 — 5,333 fatal workplace injuries in 2019 — making the observance of National Safety Month 2021 more important than ever.

In its eBook How to Reduce the Hidden Cost of Ladders, JLG outlines the steps companies can take to avoid running into the red while working at, including how to:

  • Plan work more efficiently
  • Recognize the risks of ladders
  • Understand the true costs of wasteful motion and ladder falls
  • Use alternative solutions that save money and protect crews

The company also shares a case study from its parent company, Oshkosh Corporation, on how it has successfully implemented these strategies across the organization with compelling results.

In an excerpt from “How to Reduce the Hidden Cost of Ladders,” Randy Marzicola, director of business development for JLG, says, “Ladders are a major source of expensive injuries. Ladders can cause wasteful motion, which leads to fatigue and reduces productivity. The less productive contractors are, the more costly it is. This eBook was developed to help users recognize the opportunities to minimize movement, which is a step towards safer, healthier and more sustainable and productive job sites.”

According to Marzicola, a safer equipment alternative to ladders is low-level access lifts, which are designed to mitigate the risk of costly injuries. In this eBook, JLG highlights the features and benefits of its full line of low-level access equipment, including the ES1330 and ES1530 scissor lifts, the EcoLift™ 50 and EcoLift 70 human powered lifts and the 830P and 1030P push-around lifts.

In addition to the “How to Reduce the Hidden Cost of Ladders” eBook, JLG also supports NSC’s National Safety Month initiatives by providing a wealth of resources related to job site safety, including an in-depth look at JLG’s latest advancements in access equipment and technology solutions, on #DirectAccess (www.jlg.com/directaccess). New content is posted weekly.

National Safety Month is held annually, with 2021 marking the 25th anniversary of this important ongoing initiative, by the NSC and its sponsor VelocityEHS. The National Safety Council is America’s leading nonprofit safety advocate focused on eliminating the leading causes of preventable injuries and deaths.
