The National Association of Home Builders reports that housing starts held steady in February, suggesting that “builders are in a holding pattern” because of factors like inclement weather. However, a 7.7 percent increase in the issuance of new building permits suggests that the coming building season could be busier than it has been in previous seasons.

The Associated General Contractors of America analyzed new Census Bureau data and found that spending in public, private residential and nonresidential construction increased in January. This boost represents the “steepest year-over-year increase since 2006.”
