Managing Diesel Exhaust Fuel in your Tier IV Final/Stage 4 Engines
In 1994, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) implemented a program to significantly reduce emissions from off-highway diesel engines. This program has rolled out regulations in stages, called Tier levels. Each successive Tier level has been more stringent in limiting major pollutants in diesel exhaust. The latest emissions level is Tier 4 Final. For our telehandlers, the use of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) has been introduced as a method to meet the latest Tier 4 Final emissions regulations in engines larger than 74 horsepower.

The JLG and SkyTrak® telehandlers feature Tier 4 Final compliant engines. The new engine installations not only provide a higher level of fuel efficiency, but also reduce the impact on the environment. However, the introduction of DEF brings about some new maintenance considerations that equipment owners and operators should be aware of because this isn’t a system that can be ignored.

Some of the most critical things to remember regarding DEF are
  • Keep it Clean
  • DEF can become stale
  • DEF will freeze
  • Fill levels need to be maintained
  • Some regular maintenance is necessary
  • Smart equipment operation is important
For specifics on how to successfully manage your DEF system, visit our blog on Direct Access, Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) in Telehandlers.

Now Offering SkySense, an Enhanced Detection System, for Booms and Scissors
SkySense uses strategically placed object detection sensors and innovative ultrasonic technology to heighten equipment operator’s awareness of the immediate surroundings. When operators are using the machine, sensors establish warning zones and create stop distances dependent on the machine’s direction

Visual and audio alerts let operators know when the lift is approaching an object. As it approaches, sensors will automatically direct the machine to slow down and then stop. Users have the option to override the system and inch closer to the adjacent structure when required to complete the work at height.

Improve operator experience on your jobsite with SkySense.
