Equipment Trends

Are there any notable industry regulations that have contributed to these trends?

Tiered diesel emissions regulations have certainly driven equipment design for the past decade or more. This year has been the first in many where in which manufacturers were not scrambling to meet the latest requirements. Tier 4 Final regulations created challenges for all involved – manufacturers, rental houses and equipment users – but the growing pains are finally diminishing somewhat as equipment owners adjust to the changes. “Stage 5” is a few years off and still on the drawing board, but it does have the potential to add a new layer of complexity for emissions compliance. At this point, it’s too early to know how this will impact the North American market.

Meanwhile, in the area of aerial equipment, proposed changes to ANSI/SAIA A92 standards will affect design, safe use, training requirements and more. Overall, these standards will promote increased safety and foster commonality. The effort on the part of manufacturers to meet new design standards will no doubt inspire innovation and bring about previously unforeseen advancements.
