JLG Will Promote Safety ASSE Safety 2012

Dienstag, 5. Juni 2012
JLG Industries, Inc., an Oshkosh Corporation company [NYSE:OSK] and a leading manufacturer of aerial work platforms and telescopic material handlers, will promote safety advocacy, education and awareness at the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Safety 2012 Conference and Exposition, June 3-5, 2012, in Denver.

“Construction-related injuries are on the rise, and it’s important to JLG that we raise awareness about safety and our innovative equipment that promotes safety,” said Randy Marzicola, JLG’s director, channel development, noting that June is National Safety Month. “Workplace safety is more important than ever.”

In 2010, 255 U.S. construction workers lost their lives as a result of falling while working from heights, and more than 10,000 were injured, according to the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).  Both organizations have teamed up with the U.S. Labor Department to help promote safety in the construction industry.

“Falls are the most fatal out of all hazards in the construction industry, accounting for almost one in every three construction worker deaths,” U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis said in a news release, following the observance of Workers’ Memorial Day in April. “Our simple message is that safety pays, and falls cost.”

One way to reduce the risk of working at height is the new JLG LiftPod® family of personal portable lifts, which will be on display at ASSE Safety 2012. The FS60 and FS80 models offer a complete, hands-free 360-degree range of motion in a stable and enclosed platform at working heights of 12 feet (FS60) or as high as 14 feet (FS80). In addition to these features, each model is lightweight and portable, with the stability of a work platform, and can be moved by one person.

Because both models consist of just three lightweight components, each weighing less than 50 pounds, they can be assembled and disassembled in less than 30 seconds. With an attachable work tray that holds up to 33 pounds of tools and materials, the LiftPod has a 330-pound rated capacity. Once disassembled, the LiftPod can fit in the back of a pick-up truck, van or SUV for extra convenience when moving between work sites. The LiftPod is powered by an 18-volt cordless drill or an optional Power Pack Kit for ease of elevation.

“We strongly believe that the safety of every workplace directly results in higher productivity and reduced risk,” Marzicola said. “Because the JLG LiftPod is lightweight and portable, it can contribute to the overall safety of work sites across a wide and varied use of applications in different markets, including commercial, industrial, medical, education, office building and hospitality.”
